We Filmed Our Short: Scattered!

After a year of script development, pre-production planning, and lots of discussions around the vision, the Scattered team finally filmed out production at the end of last month!

Priya and her therapist, Dr. Winfred

While production was full of long days, stress, and last-minute problem solving, we managed to capture some incredible footage thanks to our amazing actors, director, and cinematographer.

Everyone brought their A-game – other things I’ve been bogged down with during production, like actors not being off-book or crew not being prepared, all went incredibly smoothly during this production. There were some hiccups with the director/cinematographer changing shot lists at the last minute, but overall everything went to plan just as we had hoped.

I had high hopes for this short film based on the script and talent we had attached before shooting, but now I have even higher ones. SxSW was my primary target before to premiere this short, but now I’m even thinking Sundance is a possibility. I know chances are very difficult to get it (they accept 0.5% of submissions), but I really feel like this could be part of that 0.5%!

Now we are in the post-production phase and starting the editing process, which is thankfully a bit of a break from my perspective as the director takes over for her vision. I really trust her to create the best film possible with her creative vision, so I’m really just standing back and only offering a suggestion if I feel it’s really necessary.

I’m also toying with the idea of attaching a more “celebrity” EP to the project. We’ve been in discussions with someone from the South Asian community who really cares about mental health, and if he likes the final cut of the film it could make sense to attach him and elevate the visibility and distribution of the project. I think it’s a discussion for a bit later as we get closer to the final product, but if that can help distribution and more people to see this film, then that would be amazing!

I guess now it’s time for me to find another project! 🙂 Anyone in need of a producer to lend a hand?
